Learn about Your Feet: How do they keep you stand and move around in a whole life?

1. Before treading on anything solid, your feet feel like a loose bag of bones.

2. Step rotation procedures: Three stages are included in the stepping procedures.

a. Firstly, heels touch the ground.

b. Then, feet get full contact with the ground.

c. Toes are the last part to leave the ground in advancing procedures.

3. In the state of walking, your feet have to transform from laxity to vigorous, straight and precise levers to carry you forward step by step.

Six groups of numbers about ankle problems

1.According to Dr. Scholls and the files of international exchanges and researches in the Podiatric Medicine Institute of Temple University in US, podiatric diseases of adults mainly have the following contributing factors: excessive sports activities for 5%, unbalanced walking steps for 11%, advanced ages for 18%, unknown causes for 2% and improper shoeing for 64%. It is thus clear that most of these diseases have something to do with shoes.

2.Women still prefer to be slaves of beauty when faced with a charming pair of shoes. While the cost for this improper way of pursuing beauty is that the possibility of women catching podiatric diseases is as high as over 4 times of that of men.

3.A research report released by American Podiatric Medicine Association shows that a person has about 8,000 steps per day on average, and the pressure born by feet in walking is about the same with his or her own weight while that in running is about three to four times of his or her own weight. A person would walk for about 110,000 kilograms in one life, most of which are on hard road.

4.Each foot of man has 26 bones, 33 joints as well as various tendons and muscles. And in each step, so many components are involved.

5.A survey report released by the Podiatric Medicine Society of UK shows that in 2004, 200,000 residents in this country had to receive treatments for their injuries caused by improper shoeing. Whether shoes fit has become a focus of attention for public health experts in UK.

6.In US, one of every six citizens has problems in feet, while 36% of these patients believe that their diseases are so serious that they have to go to see a doctor. Annual expenses for podiatric operations have reached 2 billion dollars, and the man-hour losses thus incurred also amounted to 1.5 billion dollars in this country.
